La Fiera Soave 2012

Winemaker's Notes:

Soave is arguably the most famous white-wine DOC in Italy. Granted DOC status in 1968, the title covers wines made from Garganega grapes grown on the hillsides east of Verona. A dry, crisp, fruity white wine, Soave’s naturally refreshing appeal led it to phenomenal popularity in the second half of the 20th century. This bottle has bright, fresh fruit aromas of pears and apples with floral aromas and mineral complexities on a bright, clean palate

These elaborate “equestrian ballets” took place in royal courts and featured lavishly decorated horses and highly skilled riders performing synchronzed formations. Popularity lead builders to replicate them by designing rotating platforms with mounted wooden horses for children to ride. Parmesan cheese and green apple aromas open for this inviting and interesting blend. Flavors are tart and refreshing, with lemon zest, melon and aged cheese rind. There's enough acidity to prop up the wine until the very end, where it falls off a bit. Not a wine for everyone but if you're a fan of a wine with cheese notes, this is truly delicious.
