La Rioja Alta Vina Ardanza Reserva Seleccion Especial 2010

External Review by Wine Gems @ Perriello's:

Rioja, SpainArriving in early September 2019. Call or email to pre-order now !Wine Advocate 95 points! Wine Spectator 94 points!La Rioja Alta Vina Ardanza Reserva Seleccion Especial is a gorgeous Spanish red wine gem for the ages from one of the top producers in the renowned Rioja wine region. 2010 joins 1964, 1973, and 2001 as one of only four vintages in the 77-year history of the cuve to garner a special designation from the winery! With more than 50,000 casks and 6.4 million bottles stored at any one time, La Rioja Alta S.A. is unique in its ability to supply large quantities of fully mature wines of world class quality. The Bodega was formed in 1890 as a partnership of 5 quality-conscious growers keen to exploit the export potential for well-made 'modern' Rioja. La Rioja Alta has never let standards slip, and continues to this day the tradition of careful long-aging that gives Rioja its unique character. These wines offer a wonderfully complex bouquet, rich flavors, a seductively smooth texture, and are all ready to drink on release. La Rioja Alta Vina Ardanza Reserva Seleccion Especial is a blend of 80% Tempranillo and 20% Garnacha. It is a brilliant cherry red in color with a gorgeous, complex bouquet. Wild berry aromas predominate, blended with hints of coconut, cinnamon, tobacco and leather. The wine is full-bodied and well structured, with silky and enveloping tannins. Aged for 36 months in 4-year-old American oak barriques, it is well balanced to enjoy now and over the next 25 years. It is long and rich on the finish."2010 was a great vintage in Rioja in general and seems to be exceptional here, with a 2010 Via Ardanza Seleccin Especial (what used to be Reserva Especial) that can challenge any of the recent vintages and hopefully can develop in bottle to reach the heights of years like 1973 or 1964. The wine is expressive, aromatic, very elegant and clean, with classical Rioja aromasA great Via Ardanza! Drink 2019-2035"-Luis Gutierrez, Wine Advocate, 95 points!Enjoy La Rioja Alta Vina Ardanza Reserva Seleccion Especial with roast pork, lamb, grilled steak, paella, and aged cheeses.
