Labouré-Roi Chardonnay Vin de Pays d'Oc 1986

External Review by Palm Bay International:

Established in 1832, Labouré-Roi is one of the largest wine houses in Burgundy, producing wines which respect their history, culture and terroir. Located in Nuits-Saint-George, Labouré-Roi’s state-of-the-art winery produces distinctive wines from major French appellations. The house works closely with over 100 growers to ensure each individual wine reflects the unique characteristics of its respective terroir. The winemaking team is led by 4th generation enologist Bertrand Straebler, who provides ongoing guidance in all aspects of viticulture and vinification to ensure that each bottle best represents the house style. The winery also has an impressive cellar, which dates back to the 15th century, and is comprised of 50 large format barrels called “Foudre” which have a capacity to age 5,000 liters each. Labouré-Roi, a wine house steeped in the rich history of Burgundy, delivers quality French wines at a great price, truly making French wines accessible to all. Production Area The Languedoc Roussillon spreads out over 4 districts in the south of France: Pyrénées Orientales, Aude, Hérault and Gard. It represents, by itself, 75% of French Vins de Pays. Since 1987, when vintners became aware of the potential of this region of clay and limestone soils, and started implementing new quality initiatives (introduction of new grape varieties, reduced yields, etc.), there has been a veritable explosion in the quality of these wines. “Les Sangliers” translates to “Wild Boars”, as they are known to roam this region of France. Grape Varieties 100% Chardonnay Vinification The grapes are crushed on arrival at the winery, and the juice is cold stabilized for 24 hours before fermentation in temperature-controlled tanks. The wine is racked and undergoes partial malolactic fermentation, followed by up to 6 months in tank before bottling. Color Pale yellow with a touch of gold Bouquet Rounded notes of melon with a touch of pineapple Taste A full-bodied wine with flavors of green apple and citrus, with sharp acidity Alcohol 12.5% Serving Suggestions A wonderful match for grilled vegetables, fresh seafood, white meats, and creamy cheeses.
