i bought this wine because it was Wine Spectator's number one wine for 2008, and i have to say i was a great wine, *but* not really my style. it was very well-balanced, smooth drinking with substantial fruit, but felt "over the top". it was a little too bold, too concentrated, and the oak was too much for my taste. perhaps i would love it with another 5 years of age.

Mild wood and berry scent. Mildly tart fruit flavor. Dry with a slight powdery finish.

Fabulous, esp for the price! Interesting, bright fruit nose, followed by a dark, almost malbec-like effect on the palate. I think I would have guessed "Chile" for this, even if I didn't know. A great wine with food. Smooth and delicious.

This bottle makes an excellent decanting study. Knowing that this had a rating of WE 91 and WA 88, I was very surprised on how much I disliked it when I popped and poured. Smelling the cork, I already sensed a huge presence of alcohol. The smell of alcohol overpowered the faint nose of sour cherries. It had a very short lived red currant presence, then huge oak, tannins, heat, and bitterness. I then let it sit, and sipped after 2 hrs, then 5 hrs. I should say that it got better the longer it sat out. After 5 hrs, you get a nose of raisins and red currant. Some black pepper as well. It tastes of unripe black fruit, cedar, spices, smoke, earth. Mild tannins, pretty full bodied for a merlot. Pretty complex - it will take your tastebuds for a ride. The finish is long but a bit on the hot side. Although Snooth has it at $12, I got it at Costco for $16. This is pretty serious and old world for a Chilean wine. Please serve with serious food, and....DECANT!!!

This refers to the 2006. This was ok. It really jumps right out of the bottle onto the pallet. Fully of fruit, medium body. Highish on the alcohol (14.5%)

The wine has a luminous light yellow color that glistens in the glass. There is plenty of tropical fruit, pineapple and peach on the nose with flavors of delightful citrus fruit and white flower and a touch of asparagus. There is some oak but this is not the overwhelming woody California style Chard. It is more French in nature with the fresh flavors that come from the rich terroir of this South American wine. It is full and mouth filling with sensuous acidity and a long finish. I also love the sexy new label.

Tried this once at Mo and Rich's house and don't really remember it standing out...perhaps we drank it too soon because as of last month Mo and Rich both raved about it. Currently have a bottle "aging" and will update this once we drink it. No comment from Pants.

The 2005 Clos Apalta Limited Release is composed of 42% Carmenere, 28% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, and 4% Petit Verdot. Opaque purple-colored, the nose reveals notes of pain grille, mineral, spice box, and plummy black and blue fruits. This leads to a layered, nearly opulent wine with gobs of savory, spicy black fruits, excellent balance, and superb integration of oak, tannin, and acidity. It will evolve for 4-6 years and be at its best from 2013 to 2025.

Weingut: Casa LapostolleLand: ChileRegion: Valle de RapelRebsorten: 85% Merlot, 15% CarmenereAlkoholgehalt: 14,5 Vol. %Restsüße: trockenInhalt: 0,75 lEmpfohlene Serviertemperatur: 16 - 18°CFassreife: in Barriques gereift (12 Monate)Lagerfähigkeit: 5 - 7 Jahre ab JahrgangAuszeichnungen des Casa Lapostolle Cuveé Alexandre Merlot 2005:Mundus Vini Silberwine spirits 92 Punkte - Winespectator 87 PunkteWine Spectator's Insider - 90 Punkte Rotwein > Chile > Valle de Rapel

Wine Enthusiast ReviewRated 91It doesn't take an expert to quickly realize that this is a fine Cabernet. The nose deals potent black cherry and char, while airing unleashes a subtle perfume and floral notes. In the mouth, there's ripe berry flavors and chocolate, while late in the game the tannins stay smooth but tight. A congruent wine with no flaws. Ready now or ageable for a couple of years.Wine Tasting NotesA full-bodied and expressive red, with plenty of berry, red plum and chocolate-spice flavors. There are nice mineral and cedar notes mixed in, with fine tannins on the finish.

Wine Enthusiast ReviewRated 91 EDITORS CHOICEDense and solid, this is top-flight Chilean Merlot without any hints of green to drag it down. The nose deals polished oak and bright berry aromas; the palate offers a peerfect feel and impressive plum, berry, chocolate and vanilla flavors. Properly tannic and balanced.Wine tasting NotesBright and deep red ruby with a purple robe. Apaltas vineyard fruit expression as its best. Plums, cherries, blackberries and blackcurrant with sweet spices coming from elegant French oak aromas. Black spices from the Carmenere gives a unique and complex addition. Powerful and deep structure that surprises. Soft and chewy palate that evolve towards a long and pleasant finish with a very well achieved balance.

A nice forward, juicy style, with pear, fig and toast flavors kept honest by ripe acidity. Drink now. 10,000 cases imported.

Ripe, with medium-weight black cherry, plum and briar flavors. Shows toast too, but the fruit lingers nicely on the finish. Drink now.

Wine Tasting NotesYoung and intense bright purple red. Very clean and intense aromas with delightfully fresh red fruit and black pepper dominating the nose. Well structured and juicy tannins that evolve towards a fresh and mouth-watering natural acidity in the mid palate. The finish is long and shows a light touch of oak. Ideal companion of red meat, pasta with spiced sauces and strong flavoured vegetables.
