Laurent Perrier Demi Sec NV

Winemaker's Notes:

ASPECT Pale gold in colour with fine and persistent bubbles. AROMA Delicate and fresh, with good complexity and notes of citrus and with fruit. TASTE Fresh and supple upon entry with rounded and expressive flavours from which the fruit progressively emerges. Good balance and length. SERVING Serve between 8°C and 10°C. Brut L-P fresh and elegant style has been a major factor in the success of champagne as an apéritif. Its remarkable balance, finesse and freshness also make it the perfect match for the fine fish dishes and delicate seafood, as well as white meat and poultry. GRAPE VARIETIES Chardonnay 45%, Pinot Noir 40%, Pinot Meunier 15%. (Chardonnay proportion is double the average in Champagne.) CRUS The blend is made of wines from more than 55 crus or villages with an average vineyard rating of an impressive 94%. At least 10%, and sometimes over 20% of reserve wines are also used to ensure perfect consistency in the Brut L-P. WINE MAKING AND AGING Brut L-P is aged on its lees for approximately three years - whereas the requirement is only 15 months in Champagne. Only a very light dosage (12 grams per litre) is used to preserve its balance and natural freshness. After dosage, all Laurent-Perrier's wines are cellared for a further three months prior to shipping.

Birth The House of Laurent-Perrier was founded in 1812 by André Michel Pierlot and took the name Vve Laurent-Perrier when Mathilde Emilie Perrier, the widow of Eugène Laurent, combined the two family names after she decided to expand the business. Eugénie Hortense Laurent, her daughter, inherited the House in 1925 and sold it to Marie-Louise Lanson de Nonancourt in 1939. Rebirth During WWII, Marie-Louise Lanson de Nonancourt ran the business while two of her sons, Maurice and Bernard, joined the French Resistance. In 1945, Bernard de Nonancourt began an exacting apprenticeship, learning every aspect of winemaking from vine to cellar, before his appointment in October 1948 as Chairman and Chief Executive. At that point, the House was employing around 20 people and shipping 80,000 bottles a year. Expansion Fired by a passion for champagne, a respect for traditional values and, most importantly, for people, Bernard de Nonancourt inspired Laurent-Perrier with his independent spirit and creative audacity. He established privileged working relationships with the grape growers and cleverly combined innovation and tradition. He created the signature Laurent-Perrier style of freshness, lightness and elegance and developed a unique range of champagnes which are today exported to more than 160 countries worldwide.   Read less

A relatively simple entry-level Champagne from an excellent house. It is a bit too delicate for me.

Considering the $40 price tag I was pretty happy with this one. All that sugar in the dosage (about 4 times more than a Brut) but it ends up being about semi-dry. Mostly a fruity flavor profile with decent complexity for the price range, fresh apples, baked apples, a little melon, and citrus. Lots of tiny bubbles, this was fun to drink. Recommended 90 pts

Slightly sweet and very fresh and light on the palate.

A very pleasant champagne, medium bodied, subtle almond and white bread hints, citrus fruits are apparent, pears, well balanced and not too intense in acidity like some champagnes can be. Thoroughly enjoyable

I have to say that Laurent-Perrier is simply not my style of Champagne. It is very light and crisp but lacks the fruity flavour that I enjoy in other non-vintage champagnes such as Moët & Chandon Brut Impérial and Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin Brut Yellow Label. Perhaps you will enjoy this much more than I did but for me this is severely overpriced.

Very vibrant, crisp, brilliantly sweet-but-not-too wine we had at the restaurant moto in chicago.

Chardonnay, is the dominant grape variety and its proportion is unusually high for a non-vintage champagne blend, being double the average. The blend is made of wines from more than 55 crus or villages and between 10 and 20% of reserve wines are used. Aged on its lees for approximately 3 years and only a very light dosage is used to preserve its balance and natural freshness.

Small and frequently overshadowed in the American market, Laurent-Perrier enjoys a wide appreciation internationally for their delicately framed, elegant Champagne. The NV Brut is near ethereal, with very fine bubbles and subtle citrus and marzipan flavors that turn creamy toward the finish. Makes a perfect kickoff for any holiday entertaining, or serve well-chilled with cold fish and seafood.

The color is a pale golden hue, with fine and persistent bubbles. The nose is fresh and delicate, showing good complexity with hints of citrus and white fruit. Its perfect balance, crispness of flavors and finesse also make it the ideal companion for fish, poultry and white meat.

Medium-bodied with a pale-golden appearance. Hints of toasty yeast on the nose with mild nutty notes and flavors of ripe citrus and peach. Bright and full-flavored.

Fairly pale color. Complex, soil-inflected, smoky nose combines pineapple, peach, apricot, rose petal, cinnamon and mace; reminded me of Condrieu. Fresh and ripe in the mouth, with impressively intense flavors of fruits and spices. Finishes strong and spicy, with a late note of pink peppercorn.

Eine elegante Reichhaltigkeit, die von Aromen von getrockneten Früchten, Haselnüssen und Brioche unterstrichen wird.

A fine bead in the glass, it shows a bit more warm, round fruit than in previous bottling, leading into a slightly bitter finish of citrus rind, lime zest and wet stone.
