Wine Tasting Notes Dark, dense and creamy, complex aromas of black plum, bing cherry, blackberry and pepper merge with licorice, tobacco, mocha and dark chocolate. This is one inky Shiraz; an explosion of dark super ripe wild blackberry, touch of cigar box finishing with a melange of exotic spices. Lemon and Blackberry with some sharp tannins. This could probably use another year or two of bottle age. I recommend not opening until 2012. The year that the world will end apparently.

A dark purple color. The aromas reflect blackberry, spice, and tobacco. Like other Layer Cake offerings I've tasted there seems to be some dark chocolate on the palate. This is a jammy fruit-forward wine-blackberry and bing cherry- with moderate spice. The finish is milder and much shorter than you'd expect; it's reasonably smooth with some oak and tannins. A 14.9% alcohol level and a touch of sweetness.

Very enjoyable now, but I agree it would benefit from another year or two in the bottle.

The 2009 Layercake Shiraz is a good example of what wine reviewers are referring to when they use terms like "Aussie fruit bomb." I remember trying the 2008 vintage and quite liking it. However, the 2009 has way too much residual sugar for my taste. This wine has an appealing deep violet color and a mouth feel slightly thinner than the color would suggest. The medium finish leaves behind a pleasant dash of cracked pepper and spice, but the sugar lingers on. Had the vintners allowed it to ferment longer and break down those extra sugars, the wine would probably earn an extra half point.

Deep dark enticing burgundy color that seduced me to drinking another fine wine. With that said, this Shiraz offers a very complex long smooth start with a tobacco finish. Tannins more pronounced if not aerated for long enough, but with that said they are definitely present when aerated. Brings back bad memories of when I ate a cigarette to stop smoking when I was younger, so to my taste/memory I couldn't stand savoring this one for too long. I tried hard to taste the fruits over the tobacco, but couldn't. Even left a sickly feeling in my stomach (based off of past memory I'm sure). With that said, I'm sure others will love this - especially those that can tolerate cigarettes and cigars. My wife on the other hand tasted the overpowering flavor of blueberries and loves it (stating she would drink it again). She increased the rating 2 more glasses from my single glass. Just shows how tastes can very.

Fruit, mocha, and chocolate, hints of spice, and rich.

Dark, brimming with cocoa, fresh blueberry and spice; an abundance of black cherry, dried plum, freshly cut tobacco and coffee dominate the palate. Supple tannins prevail but are nicely integrated. Its a very pure mouthful of Shiraz. Perfectly structured, zesty acidity carries the flavors over the entire palate penetrating each taste bud. The finish tends to linger for over a minute.

This was not an easy vintage in Australia, but you would never know it from this wine. As one expects from any South Australian Shiraz, it has oodles of fruit, a big, thick, juicy mouthfeel, velvety tannins, and lots of cregrave;me de cassis, blackberry, peppery, and tar-like notes in a deep, full-bodied, lush style that should drink nicely for 3ndash;4 years as well.

Complex and textured well beyond what the modest price point would suggest, this is a full-on Shiraz, loaded with plum and black cherry fruit, and with enough tar, coffee and olive to retain your interest sip after sip. Itrsquo;s warm and velvety on the finish.

Fully ripe, easy-drinking Shiraz, offering a multitude of fruit nuances mdash; plum, black cherry, blueberry mdash; plus just a hint of tarriness. Tannins are silky and unobtrusive, making this a wine to drink now and over the next few years.
