Les Deux Rives Corbieres Rouge 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

The vast vineyard of Corbieres stretches along the beautiful Mediterranean coast of France from the ancient Roman Capitol of Narbonne in the north of the foothills of the Pyrenees Mountains in the south. It is one of the last great French vineyards to be discovered for the quality of its wine. The wine is rich, full and packed with ripe berry flavors. Serve slightly cool (not chilled) with grilled meats, poultry and cheeses.

Pop and pour, tested at 70 deg F. Strong and rustic wine, good for hearty fare. Dusty grippy nose of dark fruit, wet stone and herbs. Sharp acid at the front of the mouth followed by flavors of ripe, intense, neutral dark fruit (deep plum, red berries, elderberry), meaty-gamey tastes, some peppery spices, evident tannin, smokey notes, bitter herb (might be a sage, or tea). Integration is just OK, not sure age will help, tastes more like a mix than a whole. Finishes of fruit and sweet wood, which fade and leave a slightly bitter aftertaste at the end of the tongue (someone said black tea - perfect). Will see what some air time does and repost if notable changes. Dryish. Body medium plus, acid medium plus, tannin medium. 40% grenache, 30% syrah, 20% mourvedre, 10% carignan. 13% abv. Good QPR.

After a day vacu-corked in the fridge, wine developed richer nose (added a bit of perfumey floral), more pronounced mid-palate fruit (including cherry), firmer spice, licorice notes, and some better integration. Still has an unusual but not unpleasant steely strong fruit taste which is taking the wine the right directions (to be an intense exceptional wine) but it doesn't arrive there. Still good QPR.

Fruity, berry aromas but enough alcohol that it almost burned your nose. Dark inky purple color that left long slow legs down the glass. Dark fruit presents on the tongue along with a finish that ends again with a touch of subtle sweetness and lingers. Nice.

Nice dark berries with zesty spices, not over ripe, nor over extracted, Nice. A super value.

Jammy, with good concentration to the blueberry and raspberry flavors. Shows notes of roasted meat on the finish. Grenache, Syrah, Mourvandegrave;dre and Carignane. Drink now.

Clean and quenching, this is bright and savory with pomegranate fruit and juicy purple highlights. A bargain at $10. Extreme Value.
