Lieb Family Cellars Pinot Blanc North Fork 2005

Member Review by Philip James:

Very mineral and oily. Good acidity, but I felt the wine was rather 'straw like' - maybe a bad bottle, but it tasted a bit flat / old. Mineral finish and a light, flinty nose.

This wine artfully reflects the intense ripeness of the vintage. Pale yellow with a green tinge, this wine is much more aromatic than previous vintages with clean, focused citrus and wet stone. Mouth-filling and "big" this could be easily mistaken for an Alsatian wine. Pears, citrus and hints of tropical fruit mingle on the palate with minerals and chalk. The long, elegant finish offers a salty tingle of acidity.I've said it before, but I'll say it again: this is a new benchmark in North Fork pinot blanc, and I'd put it up against any Alsatian pinot blanc in the same price range.

Located on the North Fork of Long Island, Lieb Cellars is a family run winery making limited production wine. This Pinot Blanc is their signature wine. Made with only first press or free-run juice and fermented in stainless steel, this white wine displays notes of white peaches, tangerine and pear surrounding a mineral core. This wine is excellent with shellfish and is a great Chardonnay alternative.
