Long Meadow Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2003

Winemaker's Notes:

Winemaker's Tasting Notes: Elegant with deep garnet color "Bordeaux-like" with tea, cedar, and ripe black fruit. Powerful tannins give full-bodied mouth feel. Finishes smoothly with complex earthiness knitted with dark fruit. - Ashley Heisey Vineyard Notes: Southwest-facing estate vineyards at 1100 feet elevation atop the Mayacamas Mountains at the edge of Bear Canyon in Napa Valley. Development began in 1990. Managed by organic pioneer Frank Leeds. Budwood hand-selected from the Bella Oaks Vineyard in Rutherford and Jordan Vineyard in Alexander Valley, planted on 110R rootstock at 9x5 spacing and using contoured terraces. This is the first vineyard established on Long Meadow Ranch since before Prohibition. Vintage Notes: The unpredictable nature of the 2003 growing season began with a series of early heat spikes in March, followed by the wettest April on record. A long cool summer allowed the fruit flavors to evolve beautifully ahead of the sugar accumulation. Heat spikes in September helped move the harvest forward after many felt it would be a late year. Technical Notes: Appellation: Napa Valley Vineyards : Bear Canyon Vineyard (79%) Church Vineyard (21%) Alcohol: 13.9% Aging: Aged in French oak for 18 months. 50% new, 50% 2 year old barrels Production: 2000 cases Return to Long Meadow Ranch wine list

This is a Gold Medal Wine Club Platinum Series selection. The 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon is among an awe-inspiring procession of award-winning Long Meadow Ranch Cabernets. Honored with 91 Points from Cork’d Online, the 2003 Long Meadow Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon is deep garnet in color with Bordeaux-like characteristics of tea, tobacco, cedar, and ripe black fruit. The Los Angeles Times also named this 100% organically grown 2003 vintage one of the Top California Cabernets: “A food wine through and through, with scents of black cherries and bay leaves. The dark red cherry flavors are supported by hints of olive and a mineral grounding with a dusting of cocoa in the finish. The olive and herbal notes make it a great wine for lamb.” A balance of powerful tannins, complex earthiness, and a smooth finish make this wine a tasty compliment to rib-eye steaks and rich and creamy penne pastas. Aged in oak for 18 months. 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc. Enjoy now until 2013.

Excellent Cabernet Sauvignon by LMR! Deep red in color, powerful tannins with hints of black cherry, black berry, soily, cedar, with a smooth earthy finish. A must have.
