Lorgeril Cabardes Chateau de Pennautier 2012

Winemaker's Notes:

A unique blend of Bordeaux grapes (Cabernet Sauvignon 20%, Merlot 20%, Malbec 20%) and Rhône varieties (Syrah 20%, Grenache 20%), grown in the sunny South of France, this wine is dry, medium-bodied, with ripe fruit flavors and a hint of spice (cinnamon, cloves). The Lorgeril family has been making wine at the historic Château de Pennautier since it was founded in 1620. Pair with grilled meats, duck breast or game, with hard cheeses, or simply enjoy this round, fruity wine on its own.

On 14 July 1622, the young king of France came to visit. As a gesture of gratitute to his host, he offered him his travel furniture, which is still kept in the room Louis XIII stayed in. Taking over from his father in 1650, Pierre Louis de Pennautier decided to build an extension to the chateau and entrusted the work to the architect Le Vau, who designed Versailles, and to the famous landscape designer Le Notre. This Minister of Finance and admirer of Moliere was Colbert's "man" in Languedoc. He financed major works such as the construction of the Canal du Midi. Our familly has patiently built a philosophy and a wine culture. Far removed from passing fads and whims, our aim is to express as naturally as possible the fabulous terroirs of this land of garrigue and mountains, cooled by the Mistral, Cers and Tramontane winds and tempered by the Mediteeanean Sea. We have always been convinced that the best terroirs in our region are those that are set at altitude. Today, each of our estates is to be found in the heart of the highest areas in their appellation, where the cool nights and the wide range of temperatures will bring out all the aromatic riches of the grapes as they ripen whilst maintaining their freshness and elegance.
