Marietta Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley 2010

Member Review by puhnner:

Opens with lavender and peach jam, then bits of cinnamon, licorice, anise, vanilla, and cedar. Nice bits of plum and cherry preserve. Silky long finish of blueberry and fudge and oak.

No wine is complete on its own; pleasurable pursuits such as cooking, fishing, hunting, gardening, and entertaining add balance to wine, as they do to life. To this day, no wine gets bottled without Chris’s approval and no vineyard row goes more than a week without Chris riding his ATV through it. Read less

This is one to enjoy now; big & deep, with cassis & blackberry playing a major role; spicy oak notes round out the finish. 91pts.

86 pts. - Not offensive, but also not impressive. Was expecting more from this bottle. The individual tastes that made up the full-body of this wine just did not play well together- they each wanted to shine on their own and it hurt the experience.

Three nights in a row and three cabs from alexander valley. this one had the same familiar caramel and raisin with less of a upfront blast of fruit that you would find from napa cabs.

This is a big wine. The aromas are still tight, yet they show broad hints of complexity including ripe cherry, cassis, graphite, and a pleasant herbal and earthy component. The palate is very full and structured, and well integrated oak carries the wine to a long finish. Our goal is to make lush and rich yet very classic Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2007 seems to have achieved this in stride. While hard to resist drinking now, the thick but moderate fruit tannin promise a very easy 10 years of aging potential.

The 1995 Cabernet Sauvignon reveals a moderately intense, simple, oaky, blackberry, and currant-scented nose. In the mouth, the wine is structured, spicy, and tannic. There is good ripeness and purity, but the tannin gives the wine a compressed feel, and accentuate the astringency. While this wine will last for a decade, its overall balance is suspect.

The dense ruby/purple-tinged 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon reveals classic aromas of creme de cassis, licorice, earth, and spice box in addition to chewy, rich, concentrated flavors, moderate, sweet tannin, and a long, heady finish. If past renditions are any indication, this spicy, hardy Cabernet Sauvignon should age effortlessly for 15 or more years.

Saturated dark-ruby hue, Ultraripe fruit-forward aromas. A juicy entry leads a moderately full-bodied palate of jammy ripe-fruit flavors, with supple, silky tannins lingering on the finish. Low acids give a thick mouthfeel. Drink now.

The most underrated wine in the Marietta portfolio is either their Cabernet Sauvignon or the Petite Sirah. The 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon displays classic black currant liqueur with some background oak and spice. Dense ruby/purple, it has more grip, structure and tannin than the Zinfandel, but about the same level of concentration. Pure, fresh and full, with at least 10-12 years of aging potential, this wine is a beauty and a sleeper of the vintage.

Wine Tasting NotesDeep dark ruby color, focused aromas of black currants, cassis tobacco, and oak lead to broad fleshy, palate-coating flavors that replicate the above aromatics and linger on the finish. This is a big bad cabernet.
