Mcmanis Family Vineyards North Forty California 2013

Winemaker's Notes:

The 2013 North Forty Red is highly pigmented purple in hue with a depth of color, which makes it appear almost black. Aromatically the wine displays substantial dark berry fruit, accompanied by mocha, and a modicum of vanilla. The wine is creamy and dense. Flavors of black raspberry and blackberry are commingled with dark chocolate which is contributed from aging on French Oak. While the blend has significant tannins, it is mouthwatering.

Heady aromas of red currant, strawberry and plum with vanilla and cherry as well. In the mouth it's quite full and rich, with dark chocolate and ripe cherry on the attack, mellowing into some toast and almond flavors and some more black fruit on the backpalate, mostly black cherry and currant. As rich and full as it is, it might be even better if there were more blance between the alcohol and the structure - there appears to be more heat and although the fruit is pleasant it gets overpowered a bit. 86 pts
