Paul Hobbs Chardonnay Russian River Valley Ulises Valdez Vineyard 2009

Winemaker's Notes:

Opalescent pale yellow in color, with refreshing aromas of crisp gala apple and lime zest, this chardonnay is mouth-filling and lively from start to finish. A burst of bright stone fruit opens to silky layers of apple, pear and citrus that glide over the palate; yeasty overtones and mineral notes add elegance over a long finish

Paul Hobbs Winery:
Paul Hobbs Winery sprouted from the passion of one man: Paul Hobbs. Paul Hobbs Winery sprouted from the passion of one man: Paul Hobbs. Paul wasn’t satisfied just becoming Head Enologist of Robert Mondavi’s Opus One in 1981, or becoming Vice-President/Winemaker of Simi Winery in 1989. No, he wanted to create his very own grapes, on his own land. This passion led to the creation of Paul Hobbs Winery in 1991. Focused in the Russian River Valley, each harvest is meticulously captured so as to extract the very best from each grape. This passion started with only three wines in the winery’s repertoire: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Cabernet Sauvignon, but the winery quickly grew to produce over a dozen wines. Today, Paul Hobbs still consults other wineries around the globe, including wineries in Chile, Argentina, and Hungary. Read less

Bright gold. Complex, heady bouquet of pear nectar, melon, licorice and ginger, with a smoky mineral undertone. Spicy and precise on the palate, showing gently sweet orchard fruit flavors with complicating notes of anise, buttered toast and white pepper. This complex chardonnay finishes with strong bite and lingering smokiness.

The 2009 Chardonnay is a gorgeous, polished wine bursting with rich, varietal fruit. Subtle hints of butter and oak frame the finish. This is a great entry-level wine from Paul Hobbs. Anticipated maturity: 2012andndash;2015.

Appealing for its mix of ripe green apple, pear, citrus and honeydew melon flavors. Full-bodied, grainy and pithy in texture, but likely to grow out of that. Drink now through 2015.

The 2009 Chardonnay Russian River possesses tropical fruit, honeysuckle, cinnamon and subtle oak notes in a nicely etched, medium to full-bodied style.
