From the beginning, the wine growing philosophy was modeled on the French tradition infused with a few modern influences: One, the vineyard terroir would be the single most important feature. The 2005 Chardonnay Mon Plaisir exhibits extraordinary intensity, full body, great acidity, and orange blossom, lemon oil, wet stone, flower, and tropical fruit notes. With superb intensity as well as remarkable subtlety and freshness, it should drink well for 5-7 years.

Produced from Old Wente clone grown in the Alexander Mountain Estate Vineyard owned by Jess Jackson, and aged totally in French oak (50% new), the 1999 Chardnonnay Mon Plaisir reveals abundant tropical fruit characteristics in its ostentatious bouquet. Aromas of oranges, ripe honeyed apples, and buttered citrus jump from the glass of this hedonistically-styled Chardonnay. The integration of wood provides subtle notes of vanilla and toast, which add to the wine's complex personality. Medium to full-bodied, pure, long, and concentrated, with enough acidity to provide freshness and focus, it will drink well for 4-5 years.

Unctuous and layered, rich and creamy, showing opulent fig, melon and honeysuckle flavors that are full-blown and flow easily, with touches of ginger and honey. Complex, intense and persistent. Drink now through 2016.

Hazy yellow. Nutty pear, yellow plum and peach scents convey a strong sense of ripeness. Round and creamy, with spicy pear and white peach flavors and a subtle butterscotch accent. An oily, full-bodied chardonnay, with zesty minerality supporting and energizing a long, nutty finish.

The Mon Plaisir usually represents a cuvee of 1,300 cases. The 2006 is a spicy, honeyed, smoky wine with notes of brioche, peach, and some other tropical fruits. It is a delicious, fruit-forward wine to drink over the next 3-4 years. This 121-acre estate with 114 producing acres of vineyard all located in Knight's Valley continues to be at the top of their game and I can't recommend the wines highly enough.

Contrasting with that is the 2008 Chardonnay Mon Plaisir, which reveals more white peach, nectarine and citrus oil notes as well as a slightly richer, thicker texture, good acidity, slightly higher alcohol (15.3%) and a smaller production of approximately 1,000 cases. This beauty should age nicely for 7-10 years.

There are slightly more than 1,000 cases of the 2008 Chardonnay Mon Plaisir. Dense and concentrated with lots of honeyed peach, marmalade, citrus oil, and apricot notes with underlying spice and subtle wood in the background, this wine possesses outstanding acidity, freshness, and depth. It should drink nicely for 7-8 years.
