*2015 Bordeaux future*"The 2015 Petrus is, of course, 100% Merlot picked between September 15-29 , although the secateurs were only used on six of those days with a majority coming toward the end of that period. Olivier Berrouet told me that it will be matured in 50% new oak. It has an extremely precise, controlled bouquet with crystalline red and black fruit. This is not a powerful or intense bouquet, but beguilingly pretty. It is crystalline and I detected more mineralité than in recent vintages, perhaps because there is less puppy fat. The palate is beautifully balanced, completely harmonious, underpinned by filigree tannin that assert a sense of focus and linearity until two-thirds of the way along, whereupon it fans out while maintaining breathtaking clarity. Touches of cracked black pepper and spice lend this Petrus personality and intrigue. Having tasted most legendary Petrus since the 1940s, and tasted here from barrel since 2002, I can only apologize for being so predictable by claiming that this may well nestle among the likes of the Petrus 1950, 1964, 1989 and 1998." --The Wine Advocate*2015 Bordeaux future--we will notify you on arrival 2018*

  Château Petrus is one of the world’s most distinguished and prized wines. The winery is located in the eastern portion of Pomerol in the Bordeaux region of France. While Pomerol has never been granted “growth” classification status, Petrus is widely considered on par with other First Growth wines.    It may be hard to fathom, but for the first couple of centuries of its existence, Petrus was a cheap, hard sell. The estate was under the management of the Arnaud family until 1925, when hotel owner Madame Edmond Loubat acquired sole ownership of the property. With consultation from negociant Jean-Pierre Moueix, they reinvented the entire winemaking process on the tiny 12 hectare vineyard to a precise science and raised the price of the wine to signify its value. Soon demand outweighed supply and one of the world’s first cult wines was born. Today it has a prominent place on the wine lists of the world’s top restaurants and fetches stratospheric numbers at auction houses, especially with older vintages.    With the passing of Madame Loubat in 1961, the entire estate was passed on to Mouiex. His sons Jean-Francois and Christian took over the production and all marketing aspects of the wine. In 2008, Olivier Berrouet, son of Petrus technical director Jean-Claude Berrouet, became principal winemaker.    The vineyard’s location in the highest point of Pomerol is made up of iron-rich clay soil, resulting in fruit with excellent mineral balance and aging potential. Petrus was one of the first vineyards to implement green-harvesting techniques, which keeps yields low and quality high. Before 1960, the wines were a blend of Merlot with a small percentage of Cabernet Franc. Since that time, the wine is now 100% Merlot, with two years’ aging in new oak barrels.
