Potensac Médoc Cru Bourgeois Supérieur Primeurwijnen Bordeaux 2009

Winemaker's Notes:

When we drove to the Right Bank, the last thing we expected was to be blown<br/>away by Ch. Poujeaux - but this wine turned out to be the greatest (and most<br/>pleasant) surprise of the day. With the vibrant, deep inky colour of the<br/>vintage and dense, juicy blackcurrant fruit with a lovely earthy complexity,<br/>this wine just oozes with super-ripe tannins and harmonious oak. One to add to<br/>the Wish List. <br/> <br/>"Having sold out of Ch. du Tertre in an hour this morning, we have a another<br/>cracker to offer and it is actually slightly cheaper than I thought it was<br/>going to be too! With a vibrant, deep inky colour and dense, juicy,<br/>blackcurrant fruit held together by a lovely earthy complexity, this wine just<br/>oozes pleasure. It is very rare we offer Ch. Poujeaux but none of either the<br/>buying or selling teams has tasted such a fabulous offering. One to add to the<br/>cellar." <br/>(Simon Staples, Berrys' Fine Wine Director)

The first Poujeaux that has slipped by the tonsils this year and it seems the very opaque, sang d'homme colour makes good its hedonic promise; the nose is blackberry, menthol and beet followed by a mature, balanced cedar plank, blackberry and vanilla entry. Very satisfying and ready to drink now, though can be cellared for a few more years. 89-90 points.

Full and very velvety, with round and juicy tannins. Creamy. New ownership here is really making a difference in wine quality; this is the best ever after maybe the 1929.

Dark purple-tinged ruby. Initially reticent nose opens with air to reveal cabernet franc-driven strawberry, violet, cocoa and mineral aromas. Then broad and chunky in the mouth, with red berry and black cherry flavors complicated by a welcome element... Stephen Tanzers IWC.
