Promis - an abbreviation of the Latin word for promise, "promissio"- truly lives up to its name. The grapes are grown in the terre brune (rich, dark soils) of GAJA's Ca'Marcanda vineyard. The soil consists primarily of loam and clay. The climate- hot summer days, freshened by brisk sea air and cool nights- is ideal for the grapes grown here.

Gaja:

The Gaja winery was founded in Piedmont, Italy by Giovanni Gaja in 1859. It has been passed down through five generations of the family (who came to Italy from Spain in the 18th century) now under the direction of his great grandson Angelo Gaja. The initial wines were Barbarescos (in the Barbaresco and Treiso districts), then Barolo (in Serralunga d’Alba and La Morra), and through the years the wines have branched out into other styles and vineyard locations, with expansion into Tuscany in the mid 1990s. These began as expressions of Brunello di Montalcino. In 1996, they launched Ca’Marcanda, a Gaja Super Tuscan made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Syrah. This highly successful venture in the Bolgheri of Maremma was intended with the Piedmontese understanding of the different terroirs and how they affect specific grapes, celebrating the best expressions of their environment. Amazingly we are still on the 2008?? What gives?? I work at a brand new cellared venue and our Opening order was the 2008? - My review.. "Followed the Zenato Amarone perfectly. But what a strange Blend. -Really Angelo GAJA? Syrah instead of any other Italian Grape> Surprisingly amazing. I can not wait to try New the 2010 Ca'Marcanda. - Ca'Ma send me a 2010 bottle already. North Palm Beach Florida.
