Querciabella Chianti 375 2005

Winemaker's Notes:

Aromas of dried cherry, prune and tangy spice follow through to a medium- to full-bodied palate, with good tannins and a medium plum finish. A good effort for the vintage. Best after 2005. 10,000 cases made.

Medium density purple and ruby core with a thinner pink rim. Bright red cherries are surrounded by cocoa, tobacco, dusty earth and light metallics on the nose. In the mouth the wine is big with fairly bold tannins. Sour cherries, cocoa and chalk lead... Mike Supple. A Sangiovese wine from Tuscany in Italy. 2005 Querciabella, Agricola Chianti Classico 750ml

Chianti Classicos vary as broadly as Rioja does. You really need to know the producer in order to understand the nuances of each estate's expression of Sangiovese. This is plush with dark fruit, powder, licorice and solid tannins. All wrapped up in a surprisingly approachable package but clearly has all the signs of ageworthiness.
