Rudi Schultz Syrah Stellenbosch 2005

Winemaker's Notes:

Wine Enthusiast Review Rated 93 HIGHLY RECOMMENDED Exotically ripe, with fig paste and blackberry preserve flavors filled out by notes of Turkish coffee, mint chocolate and Christmas pudding. Yet it's not top heavy, thanks to a mineral streak and fine-grained tannins buried on the racy finish. Drink now through 2009. Wine Tasting Notes This stunning Syrah boasts beautiful aromas of blackberry, black cherry, raspberry, and pepper that follow through on the lengthy palate. Well-integrated tannins and seductive hints of mocha, earth and spice add to the complexity of this eponymous bottling from Thelema winemaker Rudi Schultz.

Rudi Schultz is one of the premier winemakers in South Africa. He has been making wines at the Thelema estate for years now, and is on to his second vintage of this tasty red. Peppercorn and blackberry fruit on the palate mingle with smoke and licorice on the finish. A great backbone of chalky tannins is present here but the wine is very approachable today.
