Ruffino 'Greppone Mazzi' Brunello di Montalcino 2013

Member Review by jtryka:

The wine is a lovely ruby color in the glass with a tinge of brown around the edges, as is typical of mature Brunello. The nose is a lovely combination of floral notes, lavender, and spice along with rich leather and black licorice so typical of a nice Brunello. The taste brings me right back to Florence, with great fruit flavors up front, blackberry, currant and cherry cola that transitions to some lovely mineral notes of dusty limestone and a sweetness that goes beyond the fruit. The tannins are elegant and well structured leading to a long, smooth dry finish. Touches of bitter toast and roasted almond sit at the top of this wine, followed by smooth aromas of blackberry, prune, leather and tobacco. The palate feels tight and compact, and the finish shows lingering tones of black licorice and spice.

Ruby red in color, with garnet hues. Aromas typical of Sangiovese cultivated in Montalcino prevail: notes of violets, roses, wild cherries and plums intertwine with walnuts, coffee beans, chocolate and dried figs. On the palate, it is balanced and elegant in structure, showing excellent aging potential. The finish is generous, with sweet fruity notes and subtle hints of rosemary and white pepper

Focused and very clean with floral berry and cherry character. Full-bodied, with fine tannins and a long, caressing finish. Best after 2006. 150 cases imported.
