Santa Julia Malbec 2006

Member Review by amour:

AFFORDABLE LUXURY. Sophisticated enough for the most selective and cultivated palate. Not very robust, but with a longer than expected finish.

Bodega Santa Julia:
Santa Julia is a label offshoot of Familia Zuccardi wines from Mendoza, Argentina. The wine is named after Julia Zuccardi, daughter of chief winemaker José Alberto Zuccardi. The wines are organic (although not certified under US law) and handmade, with close attention to detail. This is an affordable range of dry and sparkling wines as well as a late harvest Torontes/Viognier blend called simply “Tardio.”

I would call this wine a very "typical" Malbec. It comes from Mendoza, which is not surprising, and has good notes of fruit and spice. Fortunately, it is not too big, but the finish was a bit too wet for me...the taste didn't linger. I had it with lamb, which worked well, but wasn't necessarily a revelation.
