Sylvain Cathiard Bourgogne Rouge 2015

Winemaker's Notes:

"The 2015 Bourgogne Rouge, which I tasted from a one-year-old barrel, finished in malolactic in September. It has a crisp raspberry preserve and blackberry-scented bouquet, the wood subtle and nicely integrated. The palate is fresh on the entry with a citrus-like component, nimble on its toes with tart red cherries on the finish. Just a delicious generic Burgundy." - Neal Martin, Wine Advocate

Tannic, smooth but unexceptional

You can already tell its going to be a stunner. Really deep, dark cherry intensity and unusual complexity at this generic level. As with most of the 2005s, even the Bourg Rouges aren't ready yet and this deserves tucking away for at least another year (late 2009) if not two. Leave it open for a few hours now though and much greater complexity unfolds, revealing brighter red fruits and much more violet perfume on the nose.
