Thomas Fogarty Rapley Trail Vineyard Pinot Noir 2012

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Ripe meaty cherry fruit, fruit greets the nose along with a little licorice-like, fennel quality and nuanced spicy, turmeric and wood spice notes. On entry this is almost supple with plenty of ripe fruit and slightly powdery tannins that again offer a lovely texture though with slightly less tension in the mouth than the Windy Hill. You really get a sense of super-ripe fruit tannins here and that that black spice accent from the nose appears on the palate as well. This is a little tight on the finish which shows good length, and nice density without being weighty. 91pts

- Meaty and eucalyptus scented with integrated oak, milk chocolate, and espresso notes balanced against restrained dried currant fruit - -big and soft, pillowy even with nice acidity and resolved tannins, candied strawberry and cherry fruit, elegant, some very well integrated oak notes with background hints of earth, a touch of iron and emerging cherry fruit, a touch hot with a nice cherry toned finish. Little menthol and vanilla gives the fruit a touch of a cough lozenge edge, more menthol on the finish, which has a long, juicy black raspberry finale. . 91 pts

Some like it hot and spicy, and I find myself in that crowd sometimes. The oak and tannins are very subtle in this wine, but the citrus and alcohol speaks loud and clear. Rich in dark berry flavors, mild vanilla, and paprika. A bit too sweet.

Bright spicy currants on the nose with a tight ripe fruity peppery taste thingy. Finish is a little sour but overall very complex and enjoyable.
