Ventura D Vina Do Burato Ribeira Sacra Red 2007

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Opening with spicy , sappy red berry fruits and a flourish of sweet herbal tones this if fresh and bright smelling. Gentle though grippy tannins and juicy acids combine for an easy but not soft mouthfeel that highlights the minerally, almost salty red fruits of this crisp, crunchy, fresh wine. Guzzle it up! 91pts

The "sacred banks" of the Sil and Mi¤o rivers, just inland from R¡as Baixas in Galicia, are so steep that they demand careful and laborious hand-harvesting. Ventura's old vines, along with his abhorrence of filtration and chemical yeasts, give this dark-fruited, pulpy wine its succulence. The wine is 100 % Mencia, the grape of its neighboring DO, Bierzo. Unlike many of the jammier offerings of Bierzo, this Mencia has rusticity and fresh, punchy acidity reminiscent of a cru Beaujolais.
