Virginia Dare Winery Manteo Red Blend Sonoma 2012

External Review by WineExpress.com:

The debut vintage of Manteo is from Francis Coppala's new Virginai Dare Winery; a throwback to a brand that was ubiquitous long ago. He's using his substantial vineyrad holdings in Sonoma to source prime fruit. This belnd is named for a legendary Native American chief. It's a blend of 28% Syrah, 16% Petit Verdot, 16% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc, 13% Petite Sirah, 6% Merlot, 4% Malbec and 2% Zinfandel aged in oak. Wine Enthusiast Magazine said "This wine takes a kitchen-sink approach, blending 28% Syrah with sizable percentages of Petit Verdot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petite Sirah, as well as small additions of Merlot, Malbec and Zinfandel. It works, offering a dryness of red fruit, cedar and tobacco in an understated, medium-bodied package."
