As the Brothers Basedow, you could say winemaking is in our blood. We were born and bred in the Barossa Valley, the fifth-generation of German migrants who arrived in South Australia on The Pauline in the 1840s. Our grandfather, Oscar Basedow, was the nephew of Johannes Basedow, who established the Basedow winery in the main street of Tanunda in 1896. He was inspired by Martin Basedow, an educator, South Australian MP and inaugural president of the Tanunda Club. Martin Basedow established the Roseworthy Agricultural College, which has been an enormous benefit to the Australian wine industry. When Johannes Basedow died in 1902, our grandfather bought the winery and renamed it O Basedow Wines. O Basedow Wines became renowned across Australia for its table wines and fortifieds.
