We've had one way of making wine since that first vintage, 1997: keep it small, keep it simple and keep it focused. In our first vintage we produced about 150 cases total; and we leveled out at 3500 cases a few years ago. We've limited ourselves to a quantity we can watch over, in the vineyard and the cellar. By working with selected, dedicated grape growers and employing methods that we believe craft superior wine, we hope to create wines of individual character, a blend of richness, balance and pleasure. Our winemaking focuses on the purity of the individual varieties and the vineyards they come from. We do those things that a small winery has the luxury of doing: we know every barrel.

  • Betz Family Winery Cote la Rousse Syrah Red Mountain 2012

    Snoothrank:

I confess to having never had this wine before, but its reputation was equally strong in the mind, so expectations were equally strong. The wine is dark - even along the glass rim... opaque black cherry. Cola, cherry and used coffee grounds with just a meaty hint of raw bacon greet the nose. Very sophisticated. Entry is elegant, balanced and p... Read More

  • Betz Family Cabernet Sauvignon Pere de Famille 2011

    Snoothrank:

88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Petit Verdot, 3% MerlotWoodsy tree bark, mineral, and beef aroms top the big black currant fruit on the nose here which is a bit unevolved and almost jammy yet retains lots of fresh wild berry fruit. This is a bit angular but slender on entry with nicely judged, polished tannins. Its a big wine with nice power and dep... Read More

  • Betz Clos de Betz Columbia Valley 2011

    Snoothrank:

67% Merlot, 28% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit VerdotBlack fruit, herbs, mint, and spice all add nuance to the black plummy fruit of the nose that picks up hints of graphite with air. Deep and intense on the nose. Round, opulent and intense in the mouth, his shows of bright and juicy acids and soft tannins before turning voluptuously soft and sup... Read More
