The Columbia Valley AVA is Washington’s all-encompassing region with some 11 million acres of land in all. Included within its confines are six other American Viticultural Areas (AVA) including Yakima Valley, Red Mountain, Walla Walla Valley, Horse Heaven Hills, Rattlesnake Hills and Wahluke Slope. Despite the number of sub-appellations within its boundaries, there is the potential for further AVA development. Efestē, pronounced F-S-T is an acronym for Daniel & Helen Ferrelli – Patrick Smith – and Kevin & Angela Taylor. Daniel, a second generation Italian had been making wine in his garage forever, passing on the tradition of his family to his son-in-law Kevin Taylor. Daniel and Patrick met through business and their friendship blossomed through sharing their passion for wine. One evening Daniel was making dinner for his family at the Taylor house and invited Patrick too. A discussion of Kevin and Daniel’s wine making hobby came up. Patrick knew of some people in the wine industry and, why not start a project together! They met with Chris Upchurch and Jay Soloff of DeLille Cellars and both decided to come on as consultants and Efestē was born. With a love for all wines but strong interest Read more »

  • Guilty as charged, I guess.  Not that I'm the first:  Didn't ... more years, but that '11 Efeste Syrah was quite good nonetheless.  I worried a little about the "New World" comments on the back label and the inspiration for the name being the server at an Aussie winery, but this was no gloopy Shiraz.  The savory notes were all French roast cof... I have been out of town and offline for a couple weeks, so I have been delayed in every way.  Hoping to sit down to a nice dinner tonight and, after a couple hour decant... Read More
