Fran k land Estate was estab lished in1988 by Bar rie Smith and Judi Cul lam who continue to be actively involved in every aspect of the vine yard and win ery. They are now assisted by their daugh ter Eliz a beth Smith, son Hunter Smith and a small, hard working team who enjoy the diverse and idio syn cratic chal lenges asso ci ated with work ing in a fam ily business. The Iso la tion Ridge vine yard lies on part of a farm where the fam ily have run a wool grow ing enter prise since 1974. The deci sion to diver sify their farm ing inter ests was inspired and informed by a tour of French vine yards Bar rie and Judi under took in 1985 and also by two vin tages they worked at Chateau Sene jac in Bordeaux. The wine mak ing philoso phies at Fran k land Estate reflect these influ ences as well as the hard-earned lessons gained from some 17 vin tages in the Fran k land River region. Very nice shiraz without the over the top jammy fruit. Not much on the nose but plenty of dark fruit and a decent finish. The viognier takes the bite of the shiraz down a notch and adds some complexity and smoothness. Read More

Nice Shiraz, the touch of voignier give a nicer finish. Fruity on the nose, though tastes a touch on the mineral side. Well balanced, but not a prominently flavored wine. Nice silky mouthfeel.
