Haight-Brown Vineyard takes great pride in being part of a wine industry in Connecticut that is steadily building a reputation in the eyes of those who enjoy the world’s fine wines. Haight-Brown Vineyard, Inc. is Connecticut's oldest winery, opening its doors in 1975. The winery is located in Litchfield Ct. in the northwest part of the state . The Litchfield vineyard grows 45 –50 tons of grapes per year and produces Vinifera wines and French Hybrid blended wines. Retail wine is available for sale and includes the familiar Chardonnay, Merlot, Riesling etc., as well as seasonal varieties such as AppleCrannie, Spring Fling etc. Seasonal events begin with the Annual Barrel Tasting in April, followed by the Festival on the Farm in June, and our Fall Harvest Festival in September. Sales are predominantly from the winery, with some special label business and package store distribution in the local area. The company does not sell out-of-state. • I have just recently encountered the expression "black glass tasting."  It sounds like in a black glass tasting, the participants are using black glasses so that they cannot discern the color of the wine.  I went to Wikipedia and saw this sentence regarding the rationale behind black glass tasting, "A taster's judgment can be prejudiced by knowi... • Enjoyed a full tasting there recently - with our three kids in tow (just kept feeding them the entire time). Full tasting was $15 and included cheese and chocolate pairings for some of the 12 different wines. It is a nice atmosphere for a tasting and also has a small deck where you can enjoy a glass of wine. The staff was very professional an...

  • Anyone know any wineries in Connecticut that are 'can't miss' stops? There's a list here, but I was wondering if there was anything unique and worth having a look at- particularly around Mystic & Foxwoods and/or near Lake Compounce.  (Boulderdash!) Tanks  Read More

  • It's Fall and here in Connecticut, the wineries are gearing up for the annual Harvest Festivals celebrating the 2009 grape harvests. All of the wineries are an easy day trip from New York, Northern New Jersey, Boston, Rhode Island, and even Long Island. And while the trees haven't yet started turning, the drives should still be lovely. The wine... Read More

  • Haight Brown Apricot Moon NV

A lovely fortified dessert wine - the Tasting Notes describe it as a muscat wine with the essence of apricots. The color is a golden-yellow that picks up the light nicely and sparkles in the glass. The nose has strong, but not overpowering, notes of apricot, which are also found in the mouth. The wine is smooth and rich, and a really nice des... Read More

  • Haight-Brown Apple Crannie

This is a seasonal Fall wine made from apples and cranberries. It has a lovely bouquet and while a bit tart, not surprising given the presence of both apples and cranberries, the flavors are subtle and blend nicely together. A nice wine for pairing with hors d'oeuvres at a fall holiday meal, or even just for sipping on a cool mid-Fall evening. Read More

Golden Delight is a blend of HBs Seyval Blanc grapes with a twist of lemon and honey. According to the Tasting Notes, it makes a good wine spritzer. A light-bodied wine with a lovely light golden color, the wine has nice notes of citrus and just a touch of honey to sweeten and deepen the wine. It's definitely the lightest of the three fruit w...
