In 1918, Mr. Modesto Güell Coll arrives to Chile from Tarragona Spain. He came to this country following the steps of his ancestors, all of them dedicated in their land to the wine making. His commercial ability allowed him to buy his first lands at the Peñón farm, located 15 km south from Santiago. Today that area is part of what is known as the Great Santiago. In 1942 Don Modesto Güell sold El Peñón and with a great commercial vision, he purchased La Fortuna farm located 200 km south from Santiago. He planted the property with fine grapevines such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Sauvignon Blanc. During this time, Don Modesto's son, Daniel Güell Galofré joins his father and helps him to continue the family tradition, producing better wines each time. Anticipating itself to which the market would demand, Daniel planted different kind of grapes varieties, and he put all his effort in improving the harvest system and the quality of the fruit. In those years the wine was sold mainly in bulk Read more »

  • La Fortuna Brunello di Montalcino 2012

Very tart red fruit--cherry. plum. Did I mention, tart? A tannin hit that surprises me, a bit--more that I have previously observed in Tuscan wines. I am also getting a "cinnamon" sensation. I, occasionally, get this cinnamon thing with CA Pinot Noirs, but this is the first time that I can recall getting it with anything else. The acid make... Read More

  • Culpeo Cabernet Sauvignon 2007

75/100 points.Tasting 2009 vintage. Deep red color that clings to the glass. Has a very earthy nose with a tangerine and grapefruit undertone, and a hint of cinnamon. This wine is not well balanced. The acidity and oaking mask any depth this wine may have. Some cedar and citrus notes that end quickly. Bitter at the back of the pallet. Not ... Read More

Read More
