  • Marques de Riscal Reserva Rioja Doca 2014

The Marques de Riscal Rioja Reserva presents a soft scent of wild pin cherry, plum and red huckleberry. Entry is also very soft with a touch of dipped cigar and red berry fruit (as just described).Tannin is very light... no prominent oak. A mature, extremely approachable wine. 90. Read More

  • Last week I was at a tasting and among other things, they had 20 Albarinos ... ... - you should have taken that Marques de Riscal home as well. Consistently decent wine year in and year out.Oh, and Zuf - I love how you started the thread and then declined to add your own contribution! Light fruit on the nose, but, also, some fungal notes. Light red fruit, maybe, plum. on the tip of the tongue. VERY sedate tannins. This one is so easy to drink--no harshness no bitterness. A (minty?) herbal suggestion on the rear palalte. Excellent QPR. Read More

Restaurant or bar markups when ordering bottles usually don't hurt much, either. Won't have epiphanies but will be comforted by its reliability. Better than Heineken for beer in that regard, and much bette... Read More

  • Emark - you're right to a large extent, and there's a LOT of swill in ... ... a lot of crap.OTOH, from Marques de Riscal in Rioja, you can get the reserve for around $15. They've been making wine since the 1800s and aren't amortizing any of their acquisition costs any more. And that cheap wine can age for years. We don't have anything comparab... Read More

  • Sometimes we get used to paying upwards of $100 for a nice bottle of wine from the wine shop.  Those are the 'good days' that we want to remember, but soon you notice your bank account is dropping faster than Trumps approval rating, so you start looking for more value-oriented wines that are tasty in their own right. This topic is all about value... Balance. Nice bit of red fruitiness with good acidity and finishes with drying tannins and a bit of vanilla. Nothing overpowering. Good by itself. Good with food. What more can you ask from a wine. Read More
