Early in the winter of 2000/2001 three cousins from Texas, found a piece of land in El Dorado County California that they thought would be perfect for the family vineyard and winery. 2002 saw the planting of 5.47 acres of grapes on the property. The varieties included: Cabernet Sauvignon .77 acre, Petite Sirah 1.51 acres, Petite Verdot .58 acre, and Zinfandel 2.51 acres. Our first harvest of 2 tons Estate Petite Sirah took place in 2006 and it doubled in 2007. We look forward to the vineyard to be in full production soon. Wine production began at our facility in late 2003. The tasting room was opened May 15, 2004. People come just for the view, but adding fantastic wines, a charming tasting room and outstanding staff completes the picture. Our winemaker Michel Prod’hon immigrated to America from France in 1980. In 1995 he married Terrie and their dream of a vineyard and home in the sierra foothills started to bud with the planting of Sangiovese, Petite Sirah, Zinfandel, and Cabernet Franc vines Read more »

  • Cool climate winemaking may be in the blood of Mount Aukum Winery’s new owner, Winemaker Michel Prod’hon. He was born in the village of Chaumont in the Champagne region of France, and felt naturally drawn to Mount Aukum in the higher and cooler growing elevations of El Dorado County. Although wine wasn’t Michel’s first profession (he worked in a... Read More

  • The quality of the wines have really gone downhill since the original owner/winemaker - Lance Campbell sold the winery. The new owner/winemaker - Michele Prodhone is a novice at winemaking, and it shows.

  • Visited the winery during the 2011 Bring Out the Barrel wine tasting event. The view was nice and the wine was very good. It was definitely one of my favorite places I visited that day.

  • Mount Aukum Winery Petite Sirah Fair Play 2005

    Snoothrank:

Inky color, very deep. Strong berry smell that would give the impression of being overly ripe, but the tannic taste belies the 15% alcohol content. Could probably sit for a little while longer to mellow a bit though. Read More
