Each Newton Vineyard wine embodies the founders’ vision to rise above the conventions of the valley in pursuit of unmatched quality. Crafted with an uncompromising commitment to true terroir expression, the Newton style is noted for its unadulterated richness and purity of fruit. The single square mile of hillside pioneered by the Newtons in 1977 is an impressive site, with expansive vistas of Napa Valley and beyond. The terraced mountain estate has 120 acres planted at elevations ranging from 500 to 1,600 feet above sea level. Each of the 112 distinctive vineyard blocks is planted to a specific varietal – Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon or Petit Verdot. As with the red varietals, the diverse Chardonnay blocks are hand-picked and vinified separately, providing the winemaker with a rich palette from which Read more »

  • Rosenthal Merlot Malibu-Newton Canyon Malibu Estate Devon Vineyard 2009

Interesting color that seems to be closer to prune than plum. Fairly fruity nose. Serious red fruit on the tip of the tongue. More than I normally appreciate. Not much complexity as the wine moves back. A bit of a funky aftertaste -- sulfur, I assume. I can now check off Malibu from the AVAs that I have tasted. I don't feel that for $15 I w... Read More

  • Newton Unfiltered Chardonnay 2012

Very nice Napa chard. There's plenty of creamy lemon custard, some caramel, subtle spiceness, decent acidity, some green apple and a medium finish. Fairly well balanced, with nice mouthfeel. Have had the '06 and '09 in the past and seem to remember those vintages having a bit more acidity. Read More
