Paul Hobbs Winery sprouted from the passion of one man: Paul Hobbs. Paul wasn’t satisfied just becoming Head Enologist of Robert Mondavi’s Opus One in 1981, or becoming Vice-President/Winemaker of Simi Winery in 1989. No, he wanted to create his very own grapes, on his own land. This passion led to the creation of Paul Hobbs Winery in 1991. Focused in the Russian River Valley, each harvest is meticulously captured so as to extract the very best from each grape. This passion started with only three wines in the winery’s repertoire: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Cabernet Sauvignon, but the winery quickly grew to produce over a dozen wines. Today, Paul Hobbs still consults other wineries around the globe, including wineries in Chile, Argentina, and Hungary.

Really good wine. Black fruit--blackberry, currant--on entry. Some salinity and stone mid-palate. Nice mouth-filling wine. Tannins and acids are just about completely resolved, Anybody who has this in their cellar can open it now without regret. Read More

  • As usual the event will be at my house.  South American wines will poured for the most part - and most of those will be from the local area.  What does that mean?  Won't be any high end wines, just wines that are readily available to the people attending - which will be a different group also. This going to a family style backyard bbq, just frien... • Crossbarn By Paul Hobbs Chardonnay Sonoma Coast 2013

This unfined bottling provides a more raw look at Chardonnay, and it doesn't disappoint. Intriguing aromas of peach, melon and lemon. Palate still has a bit of dissolved carbon dioxide, giving a bit of lift to the wine. It's creamy and yeasty, with peach, lemon zest and a long finish. Read More
