Tensley Wines is a family owned and operated winery focusing on vineyard designated Syrah within Santa Barbara County. Established in 1998, the first release of Tensley totaled just 100 cases. In 2006, our production reached 3,300 cases and included seven single-vineyard Syrahs, the most in Santa Barbara County. Though we've grown in size, our philosophy has never changed - source the best fruit possible and let the vineyard speak for itself. For tasting and wine purchases, please call, order online, or stop by our tasting room. The Tensley Tasting Room is located in the scenic town of Los Olivos in the heart of Santa Barbara County wine country. In the same tasting room is Carina Cellars Wines, these Rhone style wines are also produced by Joey with the same degree of quality he gives to his own label. – Description from dvoristanac

  • Several more bottles showed today - 2 more from what, at with the wines ... is the first sentence of a Tensley review that I love - It's from Jeb Dunnuck -  "The 2015 Syrah Colson Canyon Vineyard is a straight up, beast of a Syrah." I hope so.Bought 4 of the "1935" Morgon and 3 of the Salice Cantele.I've had one, have one laying down so why th... Read More

  • Tensley Los Padres Syrah Central Coast 2013

Really well done for the price point. The fact that after it is shifted to stainless after 3 months allows for the grape to shine yet allows for the oak to slightly influence the gamey, blueberry features with pepper and spice. 89 points - Drink now - Paul Read More

  • Had the Tensley 2013 Central Coast Syrah.  That it is moved to stainless after 3 months really helps to let the grape shine, yet there are still oak influenced notes. Read More

  • Jacob's Creek Reserve Shiraz Barossa 2012

Whew - did the pepper ever come out as this sat. Kinda took over. The fruit was typical of JCRS, as was the coffee, cocao and that Barossa dirt - the extent of the spice would has handled any Spnish, Mexican, burger or pizza food offerings out there. Just a little less and this would have been a 91. Drink now - Paul 90 points Read More

  • Tensleysyrah Santa Barbara County 2012

Really a complex wine - rustic and gamy, blueberries, red plum, chocolate and...wait for it...a splash of Tuscany citrus that was damned amazing. This all carried through to the palate in spades and followed for a lengthy aftertaste. Stunning - drink or hold - Paul.91 points Read More

  • Here's the funny thing:  For just a minute, Napa Ridge Cab was made ... turned it into vinegar. Tensley Syrah is really bad, but it gets great marks from Parker.  Maybe all my bottles were off.  If JD still has the one he bought from me for his dad, I will buy it back and destroy it.  Coelho sold Dois Hermanos PN as a mystery wine from Garagis... • Uncorked the first of the Santa Barbara cache this evening - ... CA. I believe this is Joey Tensley's second label.  A bit on the jammy side with loads of ripe dark fruit, black cherries, slightly underipe plums that are nicely balanced with some zingy acidity. The tannins are fairly mild and the finish hangs on for a decent amount of time.  Th... Read More

  • Qupe has always impressed me with their reasonable pricing.  Lately ... ... bad wine. I bought some Tensley a couple years ago from WineAccess after all the RP hype.  It was a huge disappointment--I actually wonder if there was something wrong with the bottles.  But it also caused me to realize that I can't take Parker's word for anything rela... • Sitting at the kitchen table after a long day of travel and sorting through my ... the shared tasting room of Tensley and Carina Cellars. Starting with Tensley, we tasted several of their single vineyard (2013) syrahs and a white Rhone blend (Grenache Blanc and Roussanne).  All were well made but nothing really rung my bell. We then walked acr... Read More
