The 40+ acre, turn-of-the century vineyard that Lee and Ruth Titus bought in 1968 had been producing grapes for sixty years. Situated on the banks of the Napa River in the heart of Napa Valley, the vineyards were comprised of widely-spaced dry-farmed vines on the vigorous St. George rootstock. The Titus family continued to farm these healthy, productive vines for another ten to fifteen years. Lee and Ruth acquired two additional parcels, totaling 20 acres. One parcel was adjacent the original acquisition, a hayfield in deep river loam soil; the other was a stony volcanic knoll rising out of the valley floor not far from Napa River. These two new parcels were planted to Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon, respectively. After those parcels were planted, Lee and Ruth replanted their original vineyard. By the mid 1970's the old blocks were sequentially replaced with then-popular modern varietals, such as Zinfandel, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon, some planted on the St. George rootstock, and some on the Read more »

  • Titus Vineyards Zinfandel Napa Valley 2015

Fairly volatile nosedefinitely can detect the alcohol. Very pretty bluish-purple color. Lots of red fruit on the tip of the tongue. Unfortunately, much more jammy than I like. The acid and tannin are overcome buy the unfortunate front fruit in this wine. Read More

  • Titus Zinfandel 2014

Very pretty blue/purple in the glass. Red fruit on entryraspberry, a bit of cherry. Then, some good tannin. Good. This wine has backbone. Not as rustic as a DCV Zin, but, certainly, not a wimp. Probably, not a good match for an elegant dinner, but winner, winner with a more casual meal. Read More

  • Titus Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2009

Dark reddish purple. Red fruit (?) aromas with, maybe, some mint. Stout oaky bouquet. On the tongue, lots of fruitmore cassis and blueberrybut also some sort of cinnamony spiciness. Quite serious tannin on the edge of the tongue. Good supporting acid. Probably, one that I should not have opened quite yet. Read More

  • Titus Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2007

Dark purple in the glass. Fairly volatile nose suggests alcohol, but there is also a good amount of black berry/fruit aromas. On the tongue the berry fruit jumps out, suggesting a New World take on Cabernet. However, the fruit does not blow me away. As the wine passes farther back there are some herbal and spice notes. A hint of sweetness on... Read More
