Founded in 1983 by Oregon native, Jim Bernau, with the dream of creating world-class Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley Vineyards has grown from a bold idea into one of the region’s leading wineries, earning the title “One of America’s Great Pinot Noir Producers,” from Wine Enthusiast Magazine. Willamette Valley Vineyards approach is to grow, by hand, the highest quality fruit to produce wines of distinction, that are truly expressive of the varietal and the place where they are grown. All the vineyards, the Estate Vineyard, Tualatin Estate, and Elton vineyard, have been certified sustainable through LIVE (Low Input Viticulture and Enology) and Salmon Safe programs since 1997. In 2007, Willamette Valley Vineyards became the first winery in the world to use sustainable cork stoppers certified by the Rainforest Alliance and Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) standards. In 2010, Willamette Valley Vineyards released their first Oregon Certified Sustainable Wine (OCSW). Willamette Valley Vineyards commitment Read more »

  • Elk Cove 'Willamette Valley' Pinot Noir 2016

    Snoothrank:

The Elk Cove PN presents a beautifully dark cherry robe in the glass - foreshadowing good things to come... and they do: there is a marked spicy raspberry nose overplayed with the scent of garden variety flowers (violets?). Entry shows balanced acidity, with a creamy texture that is lush and nicely extracted. A very fine wine for the price (bu... Read More

  • We're in Oregon visiting our son and daughter-in-law, heading to Dundee today. We'll be drinking Willamette Valley wine tonight (I know, poor us) most likely from one of the tasting rooms there.  Here's my list of potential downtown Dundee tasting rooms, anyone have any experience with any of these?Antica TerraErath WineryLange Estate WineryLe C... • So on a whim we decided to visit British Columbia. But we flew up to Washington, so visited a few places there too. Totally off the subject of wine, I found an awesome bakery in Spokane and the girl there served me this thing that I thought was a kind of Parmesan cheese foam. In fact it was fermented cashew whip, which was definitely weird, but ... Read More

  • This Topic is partially intended to start a new thread on daily wine drinking as the earlier topics are just too long and too general.  How about telling us more about your choices and helping me start a new thread for the next generation, so to speak?  The "why" is the interesting part for some of us - but pictures are always welcome; after all... • As a long-time resident of Philadelphia, trips to “Wine Country” for me consisted of a lengthy flight, usually in the neighborhood of 6-7 hours. I would either head west, to one of the many regions in California, Oregon, or Washington. Or, I would fly east, heading across the Atlantic to one of the countless wine regions in Europe. It was not unt... Read More

  • Hasn’t it? When we started Snooth back in 2007, rosé was not such a hot button topic. Its growth over the past eleven years is astounding. Nielsen reports that sales of still rosé have risen sixty-five percent since last year. Sparkling rosé sales jumped by sixteen percent. The funny thing is, we can assume that prior to direct pressing most all... Read More

  • Yamhill Valley Vineyards Estate Pinot Noir Willamette Valley 2014

    Snoothrank:

Intriguing licorice and earthy bramble aromas with fresh cherries and strawberries and a smoky note. Soft, gentle on entry but generous on the palate with bold cherry and cranberry flavors, smoky earth and spice and a finish of mineral tar and leather that adds a bit of austerity to the end of this complex bottle. • Retailers report, and empirical evidence demonstrates, that Valentine's Day can be one of the busiest holidays for the wine and spirits business. Wine menu planning is a fun exercise but sometimes the rigors of workaday reality get in the way of our good time. And when it comes to wine, price doesn’t need to indicate how much you care. Wine is o... Read More
